One of my favorite things, that I don't get to do often, is go to museums. I love exploring museums. When I was young, I was fortunate to live extremely close to several of the great museums of Los Angeles. A couple of times every month, I would spend an afternoon, or sometimes even a whole day, at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, or "The Bone Museum" as I used to call it, skipping across the glossy floors of the different wings, stopping for a moment to stare at the humongous T-Rex skeleton before continuing on. And if I was lucky enough my best friend and I would be allowed to go visit the mesmerizing butterflies in the huge white tent that rested right below the museum steps.

Although my house at the time was just across the street from the Los Angeles Museum of Art I was far too young to ever appreciate the art. But my parents still tell me stories of jazz evenings every Friday at the LACMA with me in the Baby Bjorn, friends gathered, sparkling drinks in hand, surrounded by some of the best art LA has to offer. Since moving, I haven't been back to the museum. Instead, I have spent a few of my free afternoons at two of my favorite museums, The Getty Museum and the The Getty Villa Malibu. European art is by far my favorite style and Greek and Roman even more so. There's just something so relaxing about strolling through the open courtyards littered with statues and fountains, the garden surrounding the floating labyrinth, and the warm sunshine pouring down on your shoulders.
After visiting the George Nelson exhibit at our local Bellevue Art Museum here, I am so utterly curious to see what our Seattle Art Museum is like.
